The widening gap between rich and poor worldwide is a major
threat to global security and economic integration. About half of
the planets populations are poor, living on less than two dollars a
day. Poverty is a vicious circle, being both the major cause and the
effect of a situation, in which no opportunities seem to exist for
the poor to help themselves.
Rural development and gender equality are key elements of
strategies to reduce poverty and create income and employment
opportunities.
Eradicating
poverty is a shared objective of the international community. The
Millennium Declaration of the United Nations stipulates the target
of halving the proportion of the world’s people whose income is less
than one dollar a day by the year 2015.
Jute the golden fibre, is an important
cash crop of the sub-continent. A sizeable number of rural people of
Bangladesh and India depends on jute for their livelihood.
One of the mission
of International Jute study Group is to contribute significantly to
alleviation of poverty in this subcontinents. Our benchmarks are the
millennium Development Goals, a set of some antipoverty targets by
implementing projects in different area like agriculture, research,
Market promotion etc. and social economic development of rural
people.
